I’m Owen Lansbury, and I like the mountains… a lot! When I was 15 years old I remember hiking over a ridge in Chamonix and seeing real backcountry terrain for the first time and telling myself this is where I wanted to spend as much time possible. Fast forward 30 years, and while I’ve probably spent more time in the ocean, I still get the same feeling every time I get to the top of a mountain and look out across a range – this is where I’m supposed to be.
Recreationally, I’ve been lucky enough to explore many of the world’s great mountain regions, whether it be to hike or ski. Professionally, I taught skiing and snowboarding in Thredbo and Austria for a few seasons before starting a family and breeding my own ski buddies. These days I’m guiding with Thredbo Backcountry Tours and volunteering with Mountain Safety Collective as their regional director and fundraising manager.
